Nowadays English teaching methodology has been shifted from the teacher-centered pattern, in which knowledge of the language and skills are imparted by the teacher in class only, to the student-centered pattern, in which the ability to use the language and study independently is cultivated in addition to language knowledge and skills. Nowadays, the collaborative teaching which is an effective means to cultivate and train students’ ability to use language and their autonomous learning ability has become an original and effective teaching strategy, which has been generally accepted in many countries. In view of the current situation, collaborative learning should be introduced into the English class in China. As a main implement method, group work becomes the core component of collaborative learning. It determines the conditions of applying collaborative teaching and directly influences the teaching effects of collaborative teaching.
